I’m getting ready for busy month ahead …
The Storylines Children’s Writers and Illustrators National Hui 2026 kicks off the month where I’m looking forward to an amazing couple of days listening, learning and getting to meet some of my friends and heroes in NZ Children’s literature. It’s a wonderful chance for members of New Zealand’s children’s writing and illustrating community to share their knowledge, support each other, and help grow both the sector and the quality of children’s books in Aotearoa New Zealand.
I have a couple of upcoming Pitch Sessions to traditional publishers for my current manuscript, The Great Plastics Caper.
These are 5 minute sessions, live in front of the publisher where you have to ‘sell’ your manuscript to them, in the hope that they are interested enough to want to read your story, and if they like it, you’re allowed to send it directly to them, jumping the slush pile.
During the October School holidays I’ve been invited to run a Children’s Creative Writing Workshop at the Mangere Bridge Library, Auckland. I’m busy coming up with a whole lot of fun and crazy ideas to help inspire and encourage kids to give creative writing a go. Check out my events page for further details
Last, but but least – I’m developing ‘The Great Plastic Caper into a series and have started writing book 2! I’m hoping to have the first draft of the new story finished before the end of October.
And lets not forget Halloween is coming …
